Alien species in aquaculture
Community Regulation sets forth framework conditions for aquaculture management of alien and locally absent species in Austria.
The objective of Community Regulation (EC) No 708/2007 of the Council of 11 June 2007 is to assess and minimise possible impacts of these species or associated non-target species on aquatic habitats, in this manner promoting the sustainable development of the sector.According to the distribution of competences provided for in the Constitution the implementation of this Regulation is the responsibility of the Federal Provinces.
Member States keep record of all introductions and translocations, which includes a chronological list of all applications submitted and relevant documents collected prior to the approval and during the monitoring period.
Presently no notifications on the use of non-native and locally absent species in aquaculture have been filed by the competent Federal Provinces.
